From the Mailbag: D.C. v. Heller (1)

Page Nine's coverage of the D.C. v. Heller case brought in a lot of reader mail. Here's a sample:

From B.S.: All I can say is "WOW"!!!!!!!!!!! So glad you're sharing exciting history being made this with us Alan.

From P.: Thanks for the great information. I was fortunate to hear the whole thing on C-Span (Cox cable ch 2) and they put up pictures of the speakers - Justices, lawyers, etc. as we listened to them talk. Your quick summation was excellent, and I agree that I think it went better than expected. Your comments on things we could not see or hear, such as the laughter, chuckles, etc. by the Justices and those in the Court Room really add a lot! I look forward to hearing more of you analysis and what you think the final rulings will come out of this case. We know we will have to wait until June for the final decision, and we will just have to hope and pray that the decision is a strong one for the Rights of the People to own, keep and bear arms with limited restrictions. I'd hope the decision would be unanimous on such an important issue. If not, I'll be interested in your take on which Justices will vote with the majority decision.

From D.S.: I just wanted to say Thank you, Thank you for providing me/us with all the
none biased info regarding our gun laws and freedom of speech issues. I always look forward to your "page 9" newsletters :) they are always informative, educational and amusing (in your intentional way) Today was a good day in Washington. The news media TV, radio as usual only covered a small segment of this historic battle, and leaned towards extremely important matters like Brittany Spears's comeback routine. I hope the rest of your time in Washington is as eventful as toady was.

From M.: Very cool knowing that you were part of history and knowing I knew someone sitting in the room.

Thanks for the eyewitness account

From S.K.: Wonderful reporting of one of this country's biggest rulings for the right to self protection, the right to survive a criminals worst imaginings and the preservation of rights granted by God not man. It would be an honor to sit with you during this important decision but you must know you are the right man for the mission . God Bless and know we are there in spirit as are all our founding fathers.

From B.: Thank you for a "insiders" view of the proceedings. I would have given most anything to be there! I did watch....well listen, to most of the proceedings on CSpan. and I've re-listened to it as published on the web. Tomorrow I hope to read the transcript.

Thanks again for a well written, interesting analysis. Through your words, I feel like I was there..................and I was in spirit.

From O.: This is an opportunity for the Supremes to be magnificent or to be infamous.

I await your good news.

From T.A.: Thanks for the report. It sounds like our side is well represented in both character and number. I sincerely wish you all well and appreciate the dedication of people like yourself who bring us accurate and timely information on these important issues. I know the lame stream media will pretty much ignore the positive image all of you are exhibiting on our behalf.

I did hear a brief mention on the National News about the case. The lame stream reporter alluded to what a great mystery it was to figure out what the founding fathers really meant by the phrase "the right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed." Pretty pathetic.

From K.: Alan, Thank you so much for this! I have been hearing reports on this for the last two days and none of them seem to tell me anything. Thank you so much for being there and for this detail. I love the joke about the reading glasses. Just beautiful. Please keep me informed as this case continues.

Again THANK YOU!!!

From J.F.: Thank God you're there to give us a heads up, can't tell you how much my
wife and I appreciate this info. Keep up the good work and I love your
books!

From W.D.N.: Great analysis - thank you.

It is being passed all over the Internet, and I am passing it on to others.

From F.J.W.: I'm a former NJ State Trooper who is following this case very closely. I've read the entire transcript, and was recently forwarded a summation of your experience in the gallery, and just wanted to say "wow."

Having spent many wakeful hours searching for cogent opinions that consider both sides of the equation, I write with excited refreshment about the summation you wrote, that was forwarded to me by a friend.

Thanks for being there to represent, and for delivering such a brilliant explanation of what actually happened inside what many view as a confusing ball of claws, fangs and fur.

I invite you to rely on me in all matters of mutual concern.

From E.: I appreciate your tenacity, forward planning and (as usual) excellent reporting!

From Chuck Pusey NYPD-Retired: Thank you for your total devotion.

From D.: My personal prediction, as both a lawyer, and former Political Science professor, with a minor in History, follows. I think they will find an individual right, with an unpredictable "level of scrutiny" protection, but they will tailor the results to basically pour concrete around the present laws. The end result of the decision is likely to be that we won't get any help making gun laws better, but they will probably be a lot harder to make worse as well.

From F.: Alan, Thanks for the personal report. My gratitude cannot be measured in this instance. I'm looking forward to your next email.

From J.G.: You're amazing. I wish I was there with you but I close my eyes and I am.

Keep us tuned in. You're our eyes and ears.

From B.E.: Great update. Thank you for more as you can. I feel in the know because of you.

From B.: I really, really appreciate this note. Thanks very much and keep 'em coming. I am a FFL dealer in Vienna, and already had three phone calls from DC residents wanting to know how to buy a gun. Exciting times.

From Tom Liddy: Thank you so much for this recitation of the events yesterday, it is, by far, the most informative I have been able to find.

From D.R.: Just want to thank you for being there for us all. It is torture having
to rely on the "Drive By Media" to report this momentous case, so
important to us all. It is truly a wonder, we do appreciate, your taking
the time to be our own eyes and ears on the scene.

From T.: Some of your best work is in your last few emails. Great reading.
